Not an official investigation
SFL is compiled by volunteers from public sources. It is not an accident investigation and does not replace the findings of drop zones, national federations, aviation authorities, coroners or courts. Where an official report exists, it takes precedence over anything written here.
Information may be incomplete or wrong
Early reports are often inaccurate, and many accidents are never reported publicly. Records may be missing, incomplete or contain errors, especially those marked “Unconfirmed”. Some records come only from a community-compiled list and have no public source yet; the record page says so. Statistics on this site describe the records we hold – including unconfirmed ones – not every fatality that happened. Corrections are always welcome via the report form.
Coverage differs between countries
Some countries publish official accident reports or federation statistics; in others, accidents are rarely reported at all. Differences between countries, regions or drop zones on this site mostly reflect how much is reported – not how safe skydiving is there. The list shows numbers of fatalities, not risk: we do not know how many jumps were made.
Not safety advice
The lessons in our records are general observations, not training. Skydiving decisions – equipment, canopy size, approaches, emergency procedures – belong with your instructors, coaches, riggers and drop zone, and with your national federation’s rules.
No blame
Records describe what happened in order to help others avoid it. They are not a judgement of the people involved, their families, instructors, drop zones or equipment manufacturers.
Names and privacy
We do not publish the names of the people who died unless their family or close friends ask us to. Linked sources, such as news articles, may name them; those sites are not under our control.
External links
We link to third-party sources so readers can check our records. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability.
Sensitive content
This site describes deaths. If you are affected by an accident, or are struggling yourself, please talk to someone you trust or a local support service.
