What happened

What happened

Skydiver reportedly exited an aircraft at approximately 15:00 local time. The other members of his group landed at the designated landing area, but he did not arrive at the planned meeting point and could no longer be located.

A search operation was conducted in the surrounding area. His body was found the following day, 9 August, in agricultural fields near San José Vista Hermosa, several kilometres from the intended landing area.

On 14 August, La Jornada Morelos reported a preliminary statement by the head of Morelos State Civil Protection indicating that the parachute may not have opened. Other early media reports mentioned a possible equipment failure or loss of control during descent. No publicly available final technical or forensic finding has been identified that confirms the sequence of events or establishes the cause of the accident.

Response and investigation

According to statements reported by Mexican media, state Civil Protection authorities were not notified on the day of the accident. The company involved requested assistance the following morning, after which search teams were deployed and the body was located.

The Morelos State Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death and any potential responsibility. The available public reporting does not establish why the skydiver failed to reach the landing area, whether his main or reserve parachute was deployed, or whether equipment failure contributed to the accident.

Investigation status

Cause under investigation. The possibility of a parachute non-deployment was mentioned in a preliminary statement by a state official, but should not be treated as a confirmed finding. No final investigation report has been identified in the sources reviewed.
